Unemployment in India

Unemployment in India is a serious social issue. Unemployment records in India are kept by the Ministry of Labour and Employment of India.

Steps taken by the Government

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005

Steps taken on Disguised Unemployment

Agriculture is the most labour absorbing sector of the economy. In recent years, there has been a decline in the dependence of population on agriculture partly because of disguised unemployment. Some of the surplus labour in agriculture has moved to either secondary or the tertiary sector. In the secondary sector, small scale manufacturing is the most labour absorbing. In case of the tertiary sector, various new services are now appearing like biotechnology, information technology and so on. The government has taken steps in these sectors for the disguised unemployed people in these methods

National Career Service Scheme

The Government of India has initiated National Career Service Scheme whereby a web portal named National Career Service Portal (www.ncs.gov.in) has been launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (India).

Unemployment, irregular jobs and low salaries continue to hurt India while it continues to embrace labour reforms.

Social Problems in Rural and Urban India

Rural and Urban Problems in India

Many scholars have referred to characteristic differences between the rural and urban areas and social problems are often identified by these differences.

Characteristics of Rural Problems

The significant characteristics of the rural areas in India which are associated with certain social problems are:

  1. People are directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture and a large number of landowners have small and medium-sized landholdings.
  2. The upper caste people still hold large lands while people of the lower castes own either marginal land or work as landless labourers.
  3. Rural people are scattered in comparison to the urban people.
  4. Not only the norms and values but the practices of the rural people too continue to be traditional.
  5. The price the farmers get for their produces is less in relation to the work they put in.

Characteristics of Urban Problems

Just as many of the rural problems are the result of isolation and scattered living, many urban problems spring from concentration of population. Again, the political economy of the State and the correlation of class forces are primarily responsible for the plight of not only the rural poor but also the urban poor.

Slums, unemployment, crimes, delinquencies, begging, corruption, drug abuse, environmental degradation, etc. are all urban problems which are generally the result of intolerable living conditions in town and cities. In city life, anonymity increases cases of riots, communal conflicts and agitations.

Social Problems and Social Change in India

Societies often face problems because of the imbalance in the forces of caste, race, gender, class, and so on. Social change is change in the patterned roles, or a change in the network of social relations, or in the structures and organisation of a society. Social change is never complete or total; it is always partial. It can be minor or fundamental. Further, the change can be spontaneous or planned. Planned change is to achieve some set of collective ideals. For example, after Independence, India also had set some collective goals to achieve.

Though we have achieved many of the set collective goals, many contradictions have also set into our system. For example, accessibility to the legal system has become a problem for the common masses of our country. At times the forces of fundamentalism and parochialism destroy the ethos of nationalism by practising casteism, regionalism, communalism, linguism, extremism, terrorism, and so on.

Many laws have been enacted but either these laws are full of loopholes or they are not properly implemented. Egalitarianism is enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution of India but the State enforces discrimination in more ways than one. The State preaches cultural pluralism but falls prey to the fundamentalism of all hues. All these contradictions have increased discontent and pessimism among people which in turn have resulted in many social problems.

Our Missions

To provide free education to children who are underprivileged.

Our NGO motive is to create a well aware and educated society. So we are providing free education to kids who belongs from slum area and who are underprivileged. As we all know the importance of education in our daily life and how important to be educated. Children who are poor or underprivileged mostly work for their living, they are not able to get education because of their poverty. Everybody in our country has right to education. It’s very important to provide education to kids so we can secure our future generation and also it will help for development for our country. For that we are running a program in which we are providing free education and mid-day meal to kids who are underprivileged. We have one goal in our mind is to create a society where all are educated and self-dependent.

To provide employment to widows and improve women empowerment in INDIA

With an aim to create society a better place for woman we are providing employment to widows who are facing difficulties in their living. As we all know it’s very difficult to survive without employment in this modern era. For that we are running a program in which we are providing work to widows so they can earn money for their survival. We are also running a program in which we supports women empowerment. As we all know about the situations of today. Women are facing very much trouble in our country. We all have heard about the cases of misbehaving, harassment, eve teasing, rape etc. We are trying to empower women and providing support to those women who are facing all these situations. We believe in equality so we are spreading knowledge about importance of women and their rights so together we all can make a better world for women.

To provide vocational training to special kids

We are running a program in which we provide vocational training to special kids. As we all know there are many schools and branches where education is provided to special kids but after age of 15 or 16 no school entertain them and the kids forgot all what they learned in school. So here in our NGO we have opened a vocational training center for special kids. Here we are teaching them how to work and earn. We are teaching them skills like printing press*, broom making*, herbal color making*, etc. So they will become self-dependent and can earn money for their living. We are also giving employment to them so they can learn as well as earn too.
